Join us for a unique one-day symposium exploring the enduring legacy of Te Kooti Rikirangi Te Turuki through the whare, people, art and kōrero that continue to carry his influence today. The whare are at the heart of this kaupapa. Through presentations from respected academics, historians, ringatoi, marae representatives and iwi leaders, the symposium will explore the history and significance of whare associated with Te Kooti and the Ringatū faith.
The programme will also examine Te Kooti’s influence on Māori artistic expression, including whakairo, kōwhaiwhai, painted whare and visual storytelling, and how these traditions continue to carry whakapapa, whakapono, identity and resilience.
We have an exciting line-up of speakers to share with you soon.
