Nga Uri o Te Kooti Rikirangi

Through his marriage to Irihapeti Puakanga and his only son Wetini, Te Kooti has left many descendants. His descendants filed their own whānau claim to the Waitangi Tribunal and since that time, and the subsequent settlement of historic grievances with the Crown, they have embarked upon a process of restoration of Te Kooti’s reputation. This has been overseen by Ngā Uri a Te Kooti Settlement Trust, supported by some of the activities of Te Tira Whakaari Trust, the latter having as one of its core objectives the raising of awareness of the story of Te Kooti from perspectives that draw largely from traditional sources.
